There are too many variables which make it difficult to calculate the amount of time needed to assemble a shed. You should plan to devote a full day with another person as a helper to assemble the storage shed after you have selected and constructed the foundation prior to starting.

Holes in roof panels do not line up with the holes in the roof beam and side wall angles. Building is out of square- may be in square at bottom but not at top. If building is out of square, rack and push the shed until it falls back in square. Also loosen the roof panels to give more play and flexibility.

You'll need a local building contractor, who will charge between $50 and $100 per hour. Ultimately, you should allow for $200 to $6,000 for labor costs to assemble a shed.

Some wooden sheds are already built and just require you to install them. However, most wooden sheds are difficult to build and require a lot of work and patience. Metal sheds are also difficult to install and once they are built, it's very difficult to transport a metal shed.

What kind of base do you need for a metal shed? ›

One of the handier things about metal sheds is that you don't necessarily need to pour or build a platform for it. Cut up a few sheets of plywood and screw them to a metal grid (sold as a foundation kit), and you've laid all the foundation a metal shed needs.

The base for a metal shed is important as, unless you have purchased a separate timber floor kit, this will also provide the floor for your shed. Metal sheds are typically anchored directly into their concrete base.

Anchoring garden sheds

All small buildings need to be secured to the ground to avoid them being blown over. This is often achieved by digging out the top layer of ground, laying and compacting hardcore and casting a concrete base, then the shed or shelter can be bolted to the concrete.

Assembly varies depending on the size of the shed, whether you have a foundation and number of extensions. Here are some estimates for some of our basic sheds: The 10×8 takes two people 4-5 hours, the 5×3 takes 1 hour, the 4×8 takes 3-4 hours; and the 8×6 takes 2 people 3-4 hours.

Shed Construction

This involves erecting the frame, putting up the walls, and installing the roof. Doors and windows are then fitted after the structural elements are in place. The installation usually takes 2 weeks, but may take longer depending on the size of your shed project.
