Surf Report Comments

Friday, June 21

Reporter: T. Strange

Surf Report comments:

6:50 am: Once again, we have very choppy conditions, with waves 3-4+ feet. The wind is NNE @ 19-21 knots causing mostly blown out surf conditions. The marine forecast is expecting the wind to continue strong onshore throughout the day today. Our local buoy is currently 8.2 feet at 9 seconds, up from yesterdays 7.9 feet at 8 seconds. Our water temp at The Pier measured @ 82.6 degrees. You can see the ocean live by viewing The Surf Station Cam Page here.

.

7:15 am: Early morning photos are up in box #1 and you can see we have continued sizable waves for your Friday. Choppy and mixed up with continued onshore winds. Wave size rib to chest high with larger set wave up to around shoulder to head high. With a low of fhe coast, looks like plenty of waves all day again today…

.

1:05 pm: New late morning to mid day photos are up in box #2 and you can see we it’s not as blown out as earlier. so we upped our surf factor as some of the waves are looking fun! Very dumpy around The Dredge and you can see some of the surfers are wiping out hard. Those drops are not easy! Plenty of swell as a partial clean up has begun..

.

5:00 pm Late afternoon to evening note: Fun surf alert .. in that the low offshore is NE of us and the wind is backing around side offshroe behind the low. The latest wind check is… it is now NNW and lighter so the form is improving. Watch our cams and see how it looks but overall there is improvement and the Friday evening Happy Hour surf session may be a good one! There is plenty of size and power!

This may be the last report of the day… check our cam page here, and go if it’s good! Over and out..

-Tory

Here is the overview wind map. Here is the weekly weather forecast for St Augustine Beach, and the 5-day NWS Marine Forecast for Northeast Florida coastal waters. The bad news… The sizeable increase in easterly wind swell that built through mid-week will hold Thursday, then linger into the weekend when the onshore wind will veer south and diminish.Dean’s 7-Day Surf Forecast has the call as well as the potential tropical depression spinning in the Atlantic north of the Bahamas nearby in our east swell window
