How do you find a serpentine belt routing diagram? ›

Vehicle manufacturers produce serpentine belt diagrams that are designed to aid with this task. Some vehicles have the serpentine belt diagram located on a decal somewhere in the engine compartment.

If the belt is wobbling back and forth or the pulley is not spinning straight and wobbling, the pulley may be misaligned, which can cause the belt to squeal. Also, check if the belt is running in the center of the pulley and is not running off to the side.

Pinch that point between your index finger and thumb and move it back and forth. The belt should have about a half an inch of play when at the appropriate tightness. If there is less than a half an inch, the belt will need to be loosened, if there is more, it will need to be tightened.

A: Commonly a belt routing diagram sticker is on the underside of the hood or in the engine compartment. If there is no diagram, make a sketch of the belt and pulleys before removing the belt.

How to determine the belt number. All A,B,C,D,E,AX,BX belts list the inside circumference measurement after the letter of the v belt part number. Example: A88 has a 88" inner circumference, then you add 2 inches for the A Section (Listed below) to obtain the outer circumference.

The way to remove tension will be to pivot the tensioner using a tool (1) on the nut of the tensioner pulley, or (2) a special tool-lug outcropping from the tensioner or (3) in a square opening in the bracket of the tensioner pulley, cover or cap that protects the spring.

If the belt is already out of place, locate the driver's manual or the under-the-hood placard, where you'll find a sketch of the routing.
